We have completed the review of submission for our XML Application World Cup Contest, and we have some winners! Perhaps not surprisingly, social media played a big part in many of the submissions, and we were thrilled with the diversity and number of applications we received. Thanks to everyone who participated and of course to our sponsor Allnet!

In the Business Category, Belgium’s Regis Scyeur took first place with a Twitter application that allows users to search tweets using the mini-browser in the snom 370 and other models. Second place in the Business category went to Tobis Lange of Germany with an alarm clock application, while Patrick Engel of Germany won third place with a Feed Reader application.
In the Lifestyle Category, a weather application from Shaun Crous of South Africa took the honors. Crous’ application allows users to retrieve local weather forecasts on the snom 870’s large, full color screen. Germany-based Michael Kuron won both second and third place in the Lifestyle category with an application for Flickr and an application for Wikipedia access.
The contest ran from July to October and we received many interesting submissions from all around the world. That the winning applications were almost exclusively tied to social media is indicative of the growing relevance of social media across the globe, said snom’s manager of online marketing Christian Baier.
The contest was judged by a panel of international experts, including: Sandra M. Gustavsen of T3i from the USA; Frank Ochman of the IP Phone Forum Germany; Matt Marlor of AuTechHeads from Australia; Olivier Gerling, CEO fo snom France; and snom computer engineer Hirosh Dabui. The entries were judged on originality, graphical implementation, technical difficulty, scalability, installation cost and application diversity.
