Von Golf 2 und Mercedes Limousinen

Vermutlich erinnert sich der geneigte Leser an die snom Weihnachtsgeschichte rund um Herrn Schröder, seine unermüdliche Mutter und dem snom 760. Natürlich waren wir neugierig, wie unsere Neuentwicklung bei ihm angekommen war. Außerdem wollten wir dann doch auch wissen, wieso er auf snom gekommen war – irgendwer musste ihm den snom 760-Floh ja ins Ohr gesetzt haben!
Die Antwort war dann aber ganz anders: Herr Schröder war schlicht aus Verzweiflung auf uns gekommen! Nach wohl recht frustrierenden Versuchen mit Grandstream und Cisco (der Golf 2 seiner Aussage nach) fand er die neuen snom Modelle im Internet. Und da ihn bisher nur das Design der 3xx Reihe von snom abgehalten hatte, wollte er nun natürlich das allerneueste Modell – jenes, welches seine Mutter dann so verzweifelt suchte.

Zu unserer großen Freude hat uns das snom 760 nicht nur im ersten Moment einen guten Eindruck bei Herrn Schröder hinterlassen – nach knapp drei Wochen berichtet uns Herr Schröder Folgendes: „Das Cisco (immerhin ein vom Hersteller als Premiumprodukt gepriesenes 7975) war ein trauriger Fall fossiler Technik. Es hat gegenüber dem snom 760 fünf bis sieben Jahre Entwicklungsrückstand. Zumal die Telefone mit einer vier Jahre alten Firmware ausgeliefert werden, die man als Endkunde ohne Servicevertrag mit Cisco NICHT aktualisieren kann. Dagegen konnte ich mit dem snom 760 nach fünf Minuten telefonieren. Bildschirm, Tasten, Sprachqualität, Verarbeitung, Webinterface – alles bestens.“ Und von daher bekamen wir bzw. das snom 760 das Qualitätsurteil „Mercedes Limousine“ – was uns natürlich mächtig freut…

…und dann wurde es plötzlich Weihnachten!

Fast jeder kennt diesen Zwiespalt: eigentlich ist Dezember, und eigentlich würde man sich viel lieber ganz entspannt den Vorbereitungen der Feiertage widmen. Aber es passiert einfach noch viel zu viel auf der Arbeit – und erst recht, wenn man noch recht relativ neu bei dieser Firma ist. So geschehen auch unserem neuen Sales Manager Mark Wiegleb – nach ersten Antrittsbesuchen bei einigen Kunden war trotz Mitte Dezember und trotz Freitagnachmittag noch einiges auf- und auch einzuarbeiten. Und so rechnete er auch nur mit „Business as usual“, als er ans Telefon ging – doch von wegen! Am anderen Ende der Leitung war eine sehr freundliche Damenstimme, die ihm erklärte, er müsse ihrem Sohn den Weihnachtswunsch schlechthin erfüllen. Und zwar wünsche sich dieser Sohn (ein durchaus erwachsener Herr aus Bayreuth) ein sogenanntes snom 760. Und das bekäme sie nirgends zu kaufen. Und das sei etwas, das sie eigentlich nicht akzeptieren wolle und ihn daher nun ihn anrufe.
Mark Wiegleb hatte daraufhin zwei Probleme:
1. Das snom 760 ist brandneu. Tatsächlich hatte wirklich bisher noch kein Distributor bisher Geräte ausgeliefert bekommen. Hatten wir in Berlin die Telefone überhaupt schon? Die erste Charge war zugesagt, aber war da schon etwas auf Lager?
2. Als Hersteller verkaufen wir NIE direkt, sondern nur über den Großhandel. Frau Schröder war zwar sehr zielstrebig, aber wahrlich keine Großhändlerin!

Aber nachforschen konnte man ja – und das tat Mark Wiegleb. Über das Produktmanagement erfuhr er, dass die ersten snom 760 just seit sechs Stunden in Berlin vorrätig waren. Und während er mit dem Marketing die Geschichte kommentierte, kam Michael Knieling, Vorstand und Chef von Mark Wiegleb, vorbei und erfuhr von der Geschichte. Und natürlich haben wir beschlossen, dass in diesem Fall Zeit für eine Ausnahme gekommen war. Und so bekam Frau Schröder die Zusage, ihr Sohn das heißbegehrte Objekt seiner Technikleidenschaft – und wir bei snom das lang ersehnte Weihnachtsgefühl!

In diesem Sinne… let it snow, let it snow, let it snom!

snom 8xx – the 8 experience!

Whilst talking about recent major trade shows, the snom sales and marketing teams realized that they had all had a strange common experience: Many trade show visitors were really impressed with the snom 870 but clearly expected that a modern design meant a poor quality phone…

First feedback: “Congratulations, this is a very nice design!”

Second feedback: “5-way conferencing via drag and drop? Personalized display customization that easy? Still open standard? And secure?”

Conclusion: “Wow, the 870 seems to be a really great phone!”

This brought us to the question: Why are beautiful things always considered to be less powerful or intelligent than standard or low quality things?
